Ask any question about the Catholic Church — doctrine, discipline, or even current events — free of charge. If we don't have the answer, our staff will research it and reply in writing.
From its beginnings, CUF provided answers to any question about the Catholic Church. Those questions usually came from members or chapters struggling with a particular situation. In the beginning, and for many years, the task fell to the officers within CUF — the ones preparing position papers and evaluating catechism series and liturgical practices.
In 1997, CUF launched the Information Services department with a toll-free hotline — 1-800-MY-FAITH (1-800-693-2484) — open to anyone with a question. Under the leadership of Philip C. L. Gray, serving as Director from 1998 to 2001, Information Services became the largest and most active program within the CUF International Office. During those years it received an average of 800 requests and distributed more than 83,000 pages of material each month. By the end of 2001, it had researched over 10,000 different questions and issues.
After Philip's departure in 2001, and until CUF's affiliation to The Saint Joseph Foundation in 2017, the department declined; virtually no new research occurred after about 2009. With the affiliation, Philip became president of CUF and reinstated Information Services — its toll-free number, its mission, and the decade of research recovered from CUF's electronic files.
Today, anyone may contact CUF and ask any question pertaining to the Catholic Church. If Information Services does not have an answer, the staff will research your question and provide one. Answers are given in writing — either as a Faith Fact or as a research letter — so that CUF can provide substantive magisterial and scriptural citations you can reference later. Relying totally on donations, the service is offered free of charge.
Each Faith Fact provides an answer to a common question about the Catholic Church, and generally more than a research letter would: it is the culmination of many research letters and common questions. Each one provides a question, a summary answer, and an expanded discussion that includes context and application. CUF doesn't just explain what the Church teaches or does — we also explain why, and how to live the Faith. About half of all inquiries are answered by one of nearly 300 existing Faith Facts.
We have over 200 published Faith Facts across seven categories. Search our Liturgy & Sacraments index below — a live sample of the library — or jump to any category.
